There are two airports at Bloemfontein. The main airport that is used by scheduled traffic that is on the North East side of the city and our airfield at New Tempe that is on the West side of the city about 15 km south west of the main airport. When we start gliding we open a “window” in the TMA that allows us free flight to the west up to FL145.
We operate on the New Tempe airfield frequency until we are 20km away, when we change to our gliding frequency. There are a number of airways in our flying area under which we are restricted to FL145. We are not permitted to fly in the Bloemfontein TMA outside the bounds of our window, or the Kimberley TMA that is due west of Bloemfontein. In the remainder of the airspace we are restricted to FL195.
